About the CIT
The UCSF Center for Instructional Technology The Center for Instructional Technology (CIT) supports the application of information/computing technology to the delivery of course content. The CIT's role is to facilitate and promote effective use of multimedia and computer-based resources in the UCSF curricula. The CIT maintains WebCT, a web-based course management environment used by all UCSF schools for delivering curricular content. WebCT is a major provider of integrated e-learning systems, and is in use in over 2,800 colleges and universities throughout the world. The CIT offers courses and workshops for faculty and others in a variety of topics, including how to design courses in WebCT and how to make the most of technology in developing online courses. Faculty development is a major component of the CIT's mission. To keep up-to-date with what is happening in the CIT, subscribe to the CIT-ANNOUNCE email list. The CIT also supports a lab -- the CIT Lab -- with the tools needed to develop digital content. This lab is used by faculty, staff and students who are developing curricular materials. The CIT Lab consists of seven individual workstations equipped with development-level computers with multimedia software and peripherals. Why does UCSF need the CIT? Computers, telecommunications, and the Internet are changing the way universities do business. These same technologies offer a rich set of learning tools for use inside and outside the classroom. The UCSF Center for Instructional Technology provides a coordinated campuswide resource for the application of instructional technology to teaching and learning. Establishment of the CIT as a collaboration between the academic programs, the Library, and the Office of Academic Affairs, creates a solid foundation for instructional technology at UCSF.
