About the CIT
The UCSF Center for Instructional Technology The Center for Instructional Technology (CIT) supports the application of information/computing technology to the delivery of course content. The CIT's role is to facilitate and promote effective use of multimedia and computer-based resources in the UCSF curricula. The CIT manages the Collaborative Learning Environment, an online environment used by all UCSF schools for delivering curricular content. The CIT also manages WebCT, the legacy online learning system. WebCT is schedueled to be decommissioned in July 2010. The CIT offers courses and workshops for faculty and others in a variety of topics, including how to build and manage courses in the CLE and how to make the most of technology in developing online courses. Faculty development is a major component of the CIT's mission. The CIT also provides support for multimedia workstations available in the Technology Commons (CL506 -- Library 5th floor) with the tools needed to develop digital content. These workstations are used by faculty, staff and students who are developing curricular materials. Why does UCSF need the CIT? Computers, telecommunications, and the Internet are changing the way universities do business. These same technologies offer a rich set of learning tools for use inside and outside the classroom. The UCSF Center for Instructional Technology provides a coordinated campuswide resource for the application of instructional technology to teaching and learning. Establishment of the CIT as a collaboration between the academic programs, the Library, and the Office of Academic Affairs, creates a solid foundation for instructional technology at UCSF.
