Center for Instructional Technology Lab (CIT Lab)

IMPORTANT NEWS:   On December 4, 2009, all CIT Lab services will cease as we prepare for the move to the temporary library computer lab space on the 5th floor. At that time, all CIT Lab door codes will be disabled and will no longer be needed. CIT services, including workstation access and equipment loans, will resume by January 12, 2010, on the 5th floor.

The CIT Lab has been established to support the mission of the Center for Instructional Technology -- to encourage UCSF faculty in the development of innovative, computer-based multimedia programs that enhance the curricula of UCSF's professional schools. Its primary mission is to provide centralized resources that will lead to the creation of new tools for use within the university's academic educational programs.

The CIT Lab can only be accessed by registered users. To become a registered user, UCSF faculty should first contact CIT Lab staff, or stop by the CIT Lab during normal business hours. Faculty who are developing multimedia content for instructional purposes can obtain a CIT Lab code. Students and staff who are working with/for faculty to develop instructional multimedia content can also obtain a code, but they must first have their faculty sponsor complete a short form. More information is available at Location/Access/Hours.

The CIT Lab consists of individual workstations (both PC and Macintosh) equipped with development-level computers with multimedia software and peripherals. Schedule appointments with CIT Lab staff to discuss project ideas and their implementation, to learn how to use the CIT Lab equipment, and to get help identifying commercially available software in your field of interest. A four-drive DVD/CD duplicator is available. It is now much easier and faster to make numerous DVD or CD copies.

The CIT Lab includes an Audio/Video Production Room where CIT Lab users can create and edit audio and video programs in a private and quiet place.

The CIT Lab now loans out equipment, such as a digital camcorder and digital camera, for short periods of time. Equipment can be borrowed by UCSF faculty (or their designated staff/student assistants) for the purposes of developing instructional content. All borrowers must accept full responsibility for the equipment they borrow (a signed lease agreement is required). Contact the Manager, CIT Lab, for more information.

Wireless Laptop Internet Access Service is available in the CIT Lab. UCSF users -- bring your wireless-enabled laptop to the CIT Lab -- no wires required.
