CIT Lab: A/V Production Room

The CIT Lab includes an audio/video production room where CIT Lab users can create and edit audio and video programs in a private and quiet place. The A/V Production Room includes two workstations:
  • iMac 24" (Core 2 Duo) with 2 GB RAM and 500 GB of hard drive space and DVD burner.
  • Pentium 4 3.06 GHz Windows XP PC with 1GB RAM and 440GB of internal hard drive space, along with a DVD+/-R burner.
An analog-DV bridge is available for digitizing analog video and capturing it into a video editing program (e.g., iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro). A S-VHS deck is available, as is a miniDV deck. Articulate Presenter and Camtasia Studio, two programs that make it easy to create narrated, streaming video presentations, are available on the PC.

The A/V Production Room also provides a quiet space to record audio, whether you are adding voice-over to your videos or narrating PowerPoint presentations. A MOTU FireWire audio interface, Mackie 12-channel mixing board, and a high-quality Shure microphone provide the ideal tools to record quality audio -- on either the Macintosh or the PC.

The A/V Production Room can be used by registered CIT Lab users for the development of multimedia programs for academic, instructional use (all CIT Lab Guidelines apply to the A/V Production Room). All other uses must first be approved by the CIT Lab Manager. The A/V Production Room can only be accessed after checking out the room key. CIT Lab users who use the room must accept full responsibility for the equipment in the room while the room key is in their possession (and the key cannot be transferred to another's possession without prior approval from the CIT Lab Manager).

The A/V Production Room can be reserved in advance. There is a calendar in the CIT Lab where users can note down the dates/times they would like to reserve the room. Registered CIT Lab users can also contact CIT staff or call (415-514-2991 or 415-502-6678) to reserve the room.

The A/V Production Room should only be used for those activities that require it, such as recording audio and editing video. Other activities (e.g., image processing) should be done on workstations in the CIT Lab.

Follow the links below for detailed descriptions of the hardware and software available on the workstations in the A/V Production Room:
  • Milhouse (24" iMac - Intel; OS X -- Digital Video/Audio/DVD-R)
  • Smithers (Pentium 4/Windows XP -- Digital Video/Audio/DVD Authoring)
There are also two more workstations in the CIT Lab that can be used for digital video editing:
  • Flanders (Mac Dual G5; OS X -- Digital Video/Audio)
  • Scratchy (Pentium 4/Windows XP -- Digital Video/Audio)
