Digital Video/Audio
A number of workstations (Mac and Windows) are available in the CIT Lab for digital video and audio work. Workstations are available for digitizing analog video from S-VHS, VHS, 8mm, and Hi-8 videotapes, in addition to capturing digital video directly from miniDV tapes. Popular non-linear editors, including iMovie (Mac), Final Cut Pro (Mac), Pinnacle Studio (PC), and Premiere Pro (PC), are available on these workstations for editing and building your final movies. Sorenson Squeeze, Cleaner XL (PC) and Cleaner 6 (Mac) are also available for encoding digital video and audio into a wide variety of formats (Real, QuickTime, MPEG), as is Helix Producer for encoding Real files and Windows Media Encoder for Windows media files. Your completed movies can also be exported back to miniDV, S-VHS, or VHS tapes. They can also be burned onto CDs and DVDs. A DVD burner and DVD authoring software (iDVD, DVD Studio Pro, Adobe Encore) are newer additions to the CIT Lab's video offerings (available on both the Mac and PC platforms). Finally, you can add special effects to your movies using Adobe After Effects, available on both the Mac and Windows platforms. All CIT Lab workstations include QuickTime Player Pro, Real Player and Windows Media Player, in addition to Photoshop and Illustrator. The CIT Lab includes an Audio/Video Production Room where CIT Lab users can create and edit audio and video programs in a private and quiet place. Digital audio can be created, edited and encoded using Peak DV (Mac), Audacity (Mac and PC), Adobe Audition (PC) or Sound Forge XP 4.5 (PC). A MOTU 828 FireWire audio interface is available in the A/V Production Room, along with a Mackie 12-channel mixing board. |
