WebCT Supported Browsers and Settings

WebCT should be accessed through a WebCT-supported web browser. If you use an unsupported browser, certain WebCT features may not work.

You will want to be sure that your computer's settings are optimized for running WebCT. This means that you will need to enable Java and JavaScript. You will also need to make sure your cache setting is set to always reload a page. Instructions are provided below.

Supported Browsers [for WebCT 4.1 Campus Edition]

Microsoft Windows 98SE / 2000 / XP (including Service Pack 2):
(note that Windows 95 and Millennium Edition are not supported)

Netscape Navigator 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2 (Note: Netscape 6.2.x is also technically supported, but a problem has been discovered; the CIT recommends that only Netscape 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2 be used)
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 7.0. (Note: Internet Explorer 5.5 SP1 is not supported)
Mozilla 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7
AOL 7.0, 8.0, and 9.0

Macintosh OS 9.x:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1
(Note: Netscape 6.2.x is also technically supported, but a problem has been discovered; the CIT recommends that this browser not be used on Mac OS 9.x)

Macintosh OS X 10.1.x:

Netscape Navigator 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2 (Note: Netscape 6.2.x is also technically supported, but a problem has been discovered; the CIT recommends that only Netscape 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2 be used)

Mozilla 1.5, 1.6, and 1.7
AOL for Macintosh OS X browser

Macintosh OS X 10.2.x:

Please note: Firefox is technically NOT a WebCT-supported browser. However, in our experience, it appears to function properly with WebCT.

To optimize your browser for WebCT, the following browser settings are recommended (see www.webct.com/tuneup for help on setting up your particular browser):

For all browsers, enable JavaScript.
To use Chat, Whiteboard, the HTML editor, and the Equation Editor, enable Java.
Browsers must allow cookies.
For all browsers, enable cascading style sheets (.css).
For all users, set cached pages to update "automatically" (Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Netscape Navigator 6.2.x), or "when the page is out of date" (Netscape Navigator 7.x and Mozilla 1.x).

Notes

Internet Explorer 5.5 Service Pack 1 (PC) is not supported.
Netscape 4.7x is not supported.
Netscape 6.0 and 6.1 are not supported.
Netscape 6.2.x may require an updated Java plug-in (for Chat and the Whiteboard).
