Downloading WebCT Grades

In addition to using WebCT's backup capability, you should also download WebCT student grades into an Excel spreadsheet. Store these files as records even after the course is over, in the event of student grade disputes or errors.

There are three simple steps to download grades from a WebCT course at UCSF:
  1. Navigate to WebCT's Manage Students link
Log into WebCT and enter the course that you want to reset. In the Control Panel click on the Manage Course link.

    WebCT Control Panel

On the left hand side of the Manage Course page, click the Manage Students link.

    Reset Course
  2. Download the grade records for all students
In the first drop down menu (Options: Records), you can use View some students or View all students to select a group of students to download. Then select Download and click the adjacent Go button to download all the records that are displayed below the drop down menus.

    Reset Course
Leave the Record Separator drop down menu to it's default (Comma) and click the Download button.

    Reset Course

Follow any instructions for saving the file to your computer (this will vary depending on the Web Browser you are using and your computer's operating system). The file is in a format known as Comma Separated Values, and may have a .csv file extension added to the filename.

  3. Open the grade records file
Locate the file you downloaded and import it into a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel, or a database program such as Filemaker.
