Palm

WebCT provides a centralized student calendar, enabling WebCT users (students and course designers/faculty) to view a single calendar with information for all their WebCT courses. In addition, WebCT users can now download Calendar entries from their global calendar and store them in their Palm Datebook. A special application -- LinkWebCT -- first needs to be downloaded to your PC and then synced to your Palm. Also, you must be connected to the Internet to sync up your WebCT global calendar.

Note: LinkWebCT is available for Windows users only.

How to download WebCT global calendar entries to your Palm

Download the LinkWebCT zip file to your computer, and unzip the file (you may need Winzip to do this). This will install a folder called LinkWebCT.
In the LinkWebCT folder, run the setup.exe file. The setup.exe file will install the LinkWebCT conduit on your computer, and will add the LinkWebCT.prc file to the Install application on your Palm.
Note: When you are prompted to select the Palm user the application will be installed for, make sure you highlight your username before clicking Continue.
Exit and then restart your HotSync Manager for the changes to take effect.
1. Right click on the HotSync icon in the bottom right hand side of your screen (the circle with two arrows pointing to the center)
2. Select Exit from the menu
3. Relaunch HotSync Manager:
  
  Start Menu --> Programs --> Palm Desktop --> HotSync Manager
HotSync your Palm to install the LinkWebCT.prc file. The LinkWebCT icon appears on your Palm Home screen.
From your Palm, click the LinkWebCT icon. The LinkWebCT settings screen appears.

Enter your user information, and click Save. Here is the user information for the UCSF WebCT server:

       Server:    webct.ucsf.edu
         Port:    80
       UserID:    your GALEN account login name
     Password:    your GALEN account password

LinkWebCT is set up. Note: For help on setting up the user information, from the Calendar online help, click Download Calendar entries to the Palm Datebook. Note: WebCT calendar entries can only be synced to the Palm Datebook. Entries made in the Palm Datebook will not be synced to the WebCT global calendar.

Once you have set up LinkWebCT, you can download any new or modified Calendar entries simply by connecting to the Internet and running your HotSync operation. Datebook entries will appear along with your personal Datebook entries. LinkWebCT will not erase existing Datebook entries.
