Releasing Grades to Students
Releasing Grades to Students
Through WebCT, you can deliver grades for all your class assignments and tests, even if the assignments or tests were done on paper. Each student can check on her or his individual grades from home or over the weekend, and having all grades stored in WebCT simplifies record keeping for both student and instructor. Once you have uploaded WebCT student grades into WebCT (or entered grades directly into WebCT using the Edit link at the top of a grade column), you still need to release each column of grades before an individual student can see his or her grade.
There are a few simple steps to release grades to your students:
- Make sure the My Grades tool is available to your students
If it isn't there already, add the My Grades tool to your course. To do this, choose Add Page or Tool from either the Homepage or the Control Panel, and then under the last column labelled Student Tools click on the My Grades link. Then fill out the form and click the Add button to add the tool to your course.
|
- Navigate to WebCT's Manage Students page
In the Control Panel click on the Manage Course link.
|
On the left hand side of the Manage Course page, click the Manage Students link.
|
- Release columns using the Manage Columns page
From the Manage Students page, under Actions:Organize (the third drop-down menu) choose Manage Columns and then click the adjacent Go button.
|
In the Manage Columns page that comes up, find the column of grades that you want to release and check the checkbox at the top of the column (if you have lots of columns in your gradebook, you may need to scroll to the right using the scrollbar at the bottom of the window in order to see the column that you want).
Then on the right hand side, next to Release Columns click on the drop-down menu and change it from No to Yes. Finally, click on the adjacent Go button.
|
- Verify that the grades have been released
From the Manage Columns page, you can double check the attributes of the grade column to make sure it has been released to your students. The fifth row of the table (labeled Released) should read "Yes" for each column that you have released to students.
|
- Quizzes and Assignments have optional settings for releasing grades
If you have created quizzes and assignments using WebCT's Quiz and Assignment tools, you can specify additional criteria on when and how those grades are released.
To customize the settings for an existing Quiz, click on the Quiz tool (wherever you have added it to your course), then click on a Quiz title that you have created. From the Quiz Editor page that comes up, click on the Edit Quiz Settings button at the right, and scroll down the page to see the Results section, as shown below. Make any desired changes, and then click the Update button at the bottom of the page.
To customize the settings for an existing Assignment, click on the Assignments tool (wherever you have added it to your course), then click on an Assignment title that you have created. From the Assignment Editor page that comes up, click on the Edit Assignment Settings button at the right, and scroll down the page to see the Results section, as shown below. Make any desired changes, and then click the Update button at the bottom of the page.
