Resetting a WebCT Course

One of the most important steps in re-using courses on WebCT is resetting these courses each term. Resetting your course removes all student information from your course, getting it ready to add the next student class. This page describes how UCSF WebCT course designers can reset their courses.

The Reset Course function allows you to delete information from your course that changes from term to term (for example, student grades) while keeping the instructional content in your course.

WARNING: You cannot retrieve information that you have reset. Before resetting your course, we recommend that you both create a backup of your course and download the student gradebook to your computer.

There are three simple steps to reset a WebCT course at UCSF:
  1. Navigate to WebCT's Reset Course link
Log into WebCT and enter the course that you want to reset. In the Control Panel click on Manage Course.

    WebCT Control Panel

On the right hand side of the Manage Course page, click on the Reset Course link.
    Reset Course

  2. Select Which Tools to Reset
Select the tools that you want to reset (click the Select All button to reset your course completely). Then click the Reset button.

  3. Confirm Before Release
The following dialog/message box appears. Click the OK button.
A confirmation message appears indicating the tools that you have successfully reset. Click the Continue button.
Your course has now been reset. All student information has been removed, and you may add new students for a new term.
